Lazio wrote another beautiful page in its history by beating the battleship Bayern Munich in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16. The match was decided by a penalty kick from Ciro Immobile , who left Neuer no chance from eleven meters and caused the Stadio Olimpico to explode.

The Biancocelesti played a great match and made great use of a great opportunity: shortly after the hour mark Upacemano fouled Isaksen in the area and on the penalty kick the Capitoline captain coolly beat the German goalkeeper. What surprised the fans was the gesture of Maurizio Sarri , who turned around during the conversion and preferred not to look at the shot of the Torre Annunziata striker. As reported from the sidelines, the players tried to hug him after the goal but the coach went straight to the bench to write other instructions in his notebook, remaining almost impassive. Just a small gesture after realizing the goal, nothing else.

At the end of the match, Sarri analyzed the match in the press conference as follows: “Replicate this performance? Nobody has this quality. There are teams that, due to their technical qualities, manage to win even matches in which they are unable to express themselves, we in this we struggle more. Then it's also a question of getting used to playing certain matches and everything else. An applied and determined Lazio like this one would have a different ranking in the league too but it's all part of the package.”

The coach expresses great satisfaction for the joy that the team gave to the fans but is already looking towards the return match: “I feel satisfaction for the boys and for the fans, this evening it was an electrifying stadium so I am pleased that for one evening the the people of Lazio can celebrate. It will be very hard there but this evening we took part in a party, on Sunday we will return to reality.”

Lazio had received several criticisms in recent weeks for their fluctuating performances but Sarri, at the end of the conference, responded thus: “I don't take pebbles out of my shoes, I don't read anything, I don't care, I have a nice fucking face” .
