Valentine's Day beats Easter for chocolate sales

Valentine's Day beats Easter, at least for chocolate sales, according to data from Coop Alleanza 3.0. Last year, in fact, in the over 350 shops, supermarkets and hypermarkets of the cooperative which is present in eight regions from Friuli to Puglia, in the week of the Valentine's Day, from 13 to 19 February, 1.6 million products were sold at chocolate base, while in Easter week 1.5 million.

Over 22 million were sold in one year, with a peak in the week of Christmas (2.7 million) and Epiphany (2.4). But Valentine's Day is also high in the ranking, with the idea that a sweet thought is the most suitable thanks also to heart-shaped packages or with messages dedicated to love. Among the most requested products are those with the Coop brand, 15% of total annual sales (around 3.5 million packs). Half of these sales concern Coop's solidarity line, Solidal, which guarantees Fairtrade certified raw materials and at the same time supports cooperatives and small communities of producers in the South of the world.
