Bridge over the Strait, Rome prosecutor opens an investigation

An investigation file, without any hypothesis of crime or suspects, was opened by the Rome Prosecutor's Office after a complaint presented by the Avs deputy, Angelo Bonelli, by the secretary of the Democratic Party, Elly Schlein and by Nicola Fratoianni, secretary of Sinistra Italia , in relation to the Messina Strait Bridge project. The 9-page complaint was filed in Piazzale Clodio on February 1st and concerns “the design and construction activity” of the infrastructure.

In the complaint the parliamentarians ask the prosecutors to clarify why Società Stretto di Messina SpA (SdM SpA) “decided not to make public documents fundamental to the extent of the project and the procedures”.
In particular, in the document brought to the attention of the prosecutors it is stated that the company SdM SpA “has repeatedly refused requests to provide” to the complainants “both the project update report and the negotiation document, despite a component of the scientific committee had publicly stated that it had made the aforementioned report public”.
For the parliamentarians, the refusal “of SdM SpA, which with the Decree is established as an in-house company, to deliver documents expressly provided for by the decree prevents them from exercising a right and an action of control and verification. SdM SpA has refused to deliver the negotiating act that would allow us to verify how long it took the Webuild company to update a complex project, 12 years old”.

“The PD and the left – League sources report – are against public works, work and the development of the country. They prove themselves to be enemies of Italy. Their threats will not stop us. We continue to work to unblock and complete all the works stopped for too long.”
