In the March 9 episode of You’ve Got Mail there is also space for the story of a father who was absent for his son due to a separation. Gianmarco hasn’t seen his children for three years, especially Francesco. The separation from his mother occurred four years after he met Rosy, his current partner. At the separation, he tries to be present as much as possible but it is Francesco himself who accuses him of abandoning the family because he is unable to pay aid and allowances.

The empty fridge: “That hurt me”

When Gianmarco learned from his youngest child that the fridge at home was empty, Gianmarco felt guilty. In fact, it was a scene that broke Gianmarco in two: “Because I think it’s mostly my fault.” Francis’ speech:

There was a reason I chose to be without a father and he said so. He said it all and I don’t think anyone would want to find themselves in my situation. Try him again? Sincere? Not because it’s a bit of a strange situation, it’s not easy.

Francesco doesn’t feel like recovering

Francesco remains for almost the entire segment with few words: “I don’t express what I feel”, he tells Maria. He was abandoned by his father when he was 17 and is now 22. He doesn’t want to try again: “He gave us too many bad times.” Even the current partner tries to help her partner: “Your father is ill, don’t close this envelope”. The father, heartbroken, understands “He’s right… I can’t blame him”. Even the father’s partner is looking for a last desperate attempt: “We have always been there and because of the history of the statue, at the time your father didn’t have any money.” In the end, Maria De Filippi can’t do anything but close the envelope and explain herself to Giovanni and her new partner: “I couldn’t have done it differently”. Francesco needs time to metabolize and did not want, at least for now, to meet his father in person.
