Bologna came from behind to beat Sassuolo 4-2 at the Dall'Ara and move up to the top of the Serie A table. The three points they took home allowed the rossoblù to momentarily climb into fourth place on 36 points, on par with Atalanta committed tomorrow in Bergamo against Lazio. It's pitch dark for the Neroverdi, however, with their third defeat in a row and increasingly embroiled in the fight not to be relegated.
Thiago Motta surprisingly leaves Orsolini on the bench and launches Fabbian and Urbanski (40 years between them) in support of Zirkzee up front. Dionisi is no exception in relying on young people, given that he relies on Luca Lipani born in 2005 in midfield and the 20 year old Cristian Volpato in the attacking midfield. The two teams start studying each other, but the game opens suddenly in the 13th minute, when an unfortunate construction from below by Bologna translates into a pass from Skorupski which catches Freuler unprepared at the edge of the area: the ball reaches the onrushing Thorstvedt who beats the Polish goalkeeper with a low shot from the left.
The home team's reaction to Sassuolo's lead was vehement: Zirkzee threatened a couple of times, until at the third attempt the Dutch attacker managed to beat Consigli in the 24th minute with a first-time turn which was deflected by Viti ( for the League it is an own goal) he directs on goal. Bologna now seems to be in control of the situation, but the neroverdi take the lead again after half an hour with Volpato, whose curling conclusion with his left foot is a gem that silences Dall'Ara.
Genoa ahead with Gudmundsson, De Silvestri saves Bologna: Gilardino makes Thiago Motta tremble
The end of the first half still sees the rossoblù ahead, same theme as at the start of the second half: in the 49th minute a shot from Urbanski is deflected and almost mocks Consigli. Sassuolo for their part does not sit idly by and a couple of opportunities arrive for Pedersen and Viti. Fifteen minutes into the second half, Motta tries to play the Orsolini and Saelemaekers cards and Bologna's pressure in search of an equalizer becomes increasingly massive. Between 67' and 68', first Ferguson and then Calafiori found their shots deflected for a corner. The 2-2 came with a nice header from Fabbian in the 73rd minute, following a cross from the left by Kristiansen. The rossoblù monologue continues and materializes in goals from Ferguson (nice right-footed shot to the far post in the 83rd minute) and Saelemaekers (86′) which turn the match around: a collapse for Sassuolo that will have to make Dionisi think a lot.
