Ghali is one of the most anticipated characters of this 2024 Sanremo Festival . His rap contaminated by many different sounds comes to life in his eclectic style, which alternates more elegant influences and streetwear references. Just last night on the inaugural green carpet of Sanremo we saw him parading with a particular Thom Browne suit. Ramona Tabita , one of the most successful stylists in Italian fashion, has been taking care of her style for eight years now. Over the years, Tabita has taken care of the looks of Elodie, Marracash , the model Mariacarla Boscano and the actress Simona Tabasco , star of The White Lotus , who, during the last Emmy Awards, bewitched US fashion critics with a custom made dress by Marni. Speaking to Fanpage.it, Ramona Tabita previews the stylistic journey of Ghali who will be competing at the Ariston for the first time .

What will Ghali's style be in Sanremo ?

Ghali brings a song, “Casa Mia”, which recounts the dialogue with an alien. Starting from the text we did a research job: from the space age (an aesthetic created by designer Pierre Cardin in the 1960s inspired by space, ed.) and then we arrived at his greatest myth which is Michael Jackson. We mixed these two inspirations regarding shapes and volumes, adding the style we already know from Ghali. The result will be a modern style that dialogues with the alien that will be on stage.”

Were there any particular requests from Ghali for the Ariston stage?

No, actually, I made a moodboard that he liked straight away. From there, then, the research and in-depth work began on how to give shape and voice to the lyrics of the song. Still following the inspirations I mentioned before, Ghali will also show off some custom made clothes in Sanremo.

Will Ghali wear just one brand for all the evenings or multiple brands?

We didn't want to tie ourselves to just one brand to respect the thematic path: the common thread is the text, not the brands. Every evening a different Maison will interpret the theme of the song. There will be big brands as well as emerging brands, both Italian and foreign. We liked the idea of doing a mix and match while having a single common thread. At the moment we have more fun using emerging names from the world of fashion: we could only choose big brands, but since we don't have to claim a status, we decided to focus more on shapes and fits. We didn't exclude anything, we put in everything we liked.

How did you and Ghali start collaborating?

We started collaborating eight years ago. The world of music at the time had a different approach to fashion. Ghali was perhaps one of the first to be supported by the great Maisons such as Dior and Gucci: in one of his first tours, in 2018, he showed off all the outfits of the Florentine brand. We started working a lot with Bottega Veneta and, recently, we collaborate a lot with Jil Sander, a brand that never dresses any singer. I don't have the presumption to say that we were the first to start a relationship between music and fashion, but, well, several years ago it was more complex.

How has your style evolved from the beginning of your career to today?

I believe that Ghali today manages to wear any type of look with ease, without ever seeming forced. The danger, when you have a stylist, is that it is clear that the outfits are taken care of by someone. He, on the other hand, is casual. This is also because we have been working together for a long time and our tastes have practically aligned.

Is there an anecdote that you remember from past editions of Sanremo, a memory linked to a particular dress of the artists you followed?

One of the memories that comes to mind is an anecdote linked to Sanremo 2020 (that year Ghali was a super guest and brought a medley of his hits and, for the first time, a song in Arabic to the Ariston stage, ed.) . His performance included a sketch with a stuntman who fell down the theater stairs. For me it was strange on that occasion to dress two Ghalis: I had to style a person who had to fall and appear credible in doing so, without being cooler than the real Ghali! So the stunt wore a pink suit, while Ghali showed off a custom made black Dior dress with a pink band, which matched the color of her hair at the time.

This year the fun experience will also be styling his stunt double, the alien, who will go on stage with Ghali and who will dress Marni. On some evenings they will have coordinated looks, but basically they will have a style of their own, also given the diversity of the brands that Ghali will show off.

Looking at past editions of the Festival that you have experienced, is there a look that you would have avoided or that you would not have chosen?

I don't think so, also because I don't make instinctive choices, I think about them all before giving life to a look. I preferred not to follow artists whose path I wasn't convinced of: when I do I'm always convinced of the vision I have.
