Everything is ready in Formula 1 for the first Grand Prix of the 2024 World Championship : the Bahrain GP will take place from Thursday 29 February to Saturday 2 March . The program of the first stage of the season is the traditional one but brought forward by one day: on Thursday the drivers take to the track for the first two free practice sessions ( FP1 and FP2 ), on Friday for Free Practice 3 and qualifying and on Saturday for race that awards the first world championship points of the year. The time difference will not significantly influence the times of the various sessions on the Sakhir circuit which will be the canonical ones. The entire program of the 2024 F1 Bahrain Grand Prix will be broadcast live on Sky while qualifying and the race will also be broadcast free-to-air on TV8 but deferred.

After seeing them at work in last week's pre-season tests, there is great anticipation for what will be the real debut of the new Formula 1 single-seaters that will compete during this new championship. From the first free practice sessions, therefore, the spotlight will be focused above all on Ferrari and Red Bull, to understand whether the SF-24s of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, who performed well in the tests, can immediately compete on equal terms with the very favorite RB20 of reigning champion Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez.

The Sakhir circuit

Also in 2024, the Sakhir circuit will host the first Grand Prix of the Formula 1 World Championship. The Bahrain GP, scheduled from Thursday 29 February to Saturday 2 March, will in fact take place on the circuit located in the middle of the desert, near the capital Manama, which measures 5,412 meters and winds along 15 curves. A particular track especially due to the grip on the particularly abrasive asphalt and the high temperatures which put every single component of the new single-seaters to the test . It will therefore be essential for teams and drivers to find the right aerodynamic set-up on a track where they should run with a medium downforce .

As the official supplier of Formula 1 braking systems Brembo informs, Sakhir is a highly demanding layout for the brakes which are used 8 times during each single lap on the Bahrain International Circuit. The most demanding braking of all is that at Turn 1 , the one at the end of the straight on which the finish line is located, where the single-seaters reach a speed of 328 km/h decelerating up to 80 km/h in 2.95 seconds during the which covers 131 metres.

Last year the winner on this circuit was Red Bull driver Max Verstappen who preceded his teammate Sergio Perez and Fernando Alonso in the Aston Martin to the checkered flag. Among those who will take to the track in the 2023 edition of the Bahrain GP, the driver with the most victories on this track is Lewis Hamilton who triumphed at Sakhir on five occasions and also holds the flying lap record of this track with 1: 27.264 with which he took pole position in 2020. The fastest lap ever made in a race on the Bahraini circuit was the one achieved by Pedro de la Rosa during the 2024 Bahrain GP when he did a lap in 1 with the McLaren: 31,447 .
