“Tomorrow evening we will give the date,” the leader of the farmers' revolt Danilo Calvani told ANSA, referring to the protest announced in recent days in Rome. “The protest will take place”, he added, specifying that the location “is to be agreed with the police,” and it will not end in one day: the date “will not be 'on', but 'from': in Rome” there will be a first protest”, in which only the farmers and not the vehicles are expected. “Those will arrive later”. Meanwhile, the protests “continue throughout Italy, from North to South, he added, and are planned for almost the entire week”
Over 500 vehicles parade in Pavia
The tractor protest also reached Pavia this morning, after having touched Voghera and Casteggio in recent days. Over 500 agricultural vehicles moved from a peripheral area of the city to then reach Viale Matteotti in procession, near the Visconteo Castle. Upon their arrival in the centre, amid horns, sirens and tricolor flags, they were greeted by the numerous people present in the area for the antiques market and the Sunday morning walk favored by the good weather. There were few protests due to traffic disruptions, much more applause of solidarity. “The event – explained the organizers – also saw the participation of farmers from Melegnano and the provinces of Brescia and Alessandria. They are farmers who represent different agricultural sectors, from rice to wine. We contest the agricultural policies of the European Union which they put the entire primary sector at risk. We will continue with the protest, which has also spread to France, Germany and other European countries, until we are heard.” On some tractors, signs were displayed with slogans summarizing the reasons for the protest: “Our future is yours too”, “We are broke”.
